Opportunities to contribute to the work of GTC Scotland
Arrangements for election 2011-2012
An election of 19 teachers to be members of the first fully independent GTC Scotland Council (the Thirteenth Council) will take place later this year. The formal Notice of Election will be published in the next issue of Teaching Scotland and also during week commencing 22 August 2011 in the media. The Notice will give full details of the qualifications required of candidates and electors.
I extend an invitation to you to consider standing for election, and to obtain further details from the Council's website www.gtcs.org.uk/election or by email
Irene Hunter
Returning Officer
Standing for election
The Thirteenth Council will take up office on 2 April 2012. For this Council only, successful candidates will serve for a period of either two years or four years. This is to introduce a rolling programme of elections to the Council, meaning that half of the elected Council members in the future will be elected every two years.
Apply to serve as a Panel or Appeals Board member
Following an open recruitment exercise, we are now in the process of putting in place an independent Appointments Committee consisting of registered teachers and lay members. The Appointments Committee will be responsible for the selection and appointment of seven Lay Council members, and a pool of around 50 appointed panel members and seven Appeals Board members, made up of registered teachers and lay members.
From the end of June 2011, we will be seeking applications from registered teachers to serve on our adjudicating panels and Appeals Board.
If you would like to play a part in shaping the teaching profession in Scotland and to bring your ideas, expertise and talent to our work as a professional body, we encourage you to apply.
This will be an opportunity to contribute to the work of the new, fully independent GTC Scotland, to gain a wider understanding of the work which we do, and to enhance your own professional development.
