Destination of choice for professional development
The School of Education at the University of Glasgow has a tempting suite of professional learning opportunities and postgraduate programmes for teachers in Scotland.
As well as its flagship Doctorate in Education and Chartered Teacher programmes, the School offers a range of programmes in Leadership, Curriculum, Inclusion, Language and Literacies and STEM education. Under the leadership of its new Head of School, Professor Robert Davis, the School retains its commitment to research-led teaching and staff are involved in leading-edge research in and across the areas of Creativity, Culture and Faith; Interdisciplinary Science Education, Technologies and Learning; Professional Learning and Leadership; Pedagogy, Policy and Practice; Social Justice, Place and Lifelong Education.
The School has expanded its portfolio of Masters programmes and innovations for 2011-12 to include Masters pathways in Children's Literature and Literacies and Drug and Alcohol Studies. A new Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership has been added to the programmes in our leadership suite that also includes a Postgraduate Certificate in Middle Leadership and an MSc in Organisational Leadership.
The School is involved in a number of innovations with schools and learning communities and provides customised programmes and services through its local and international consultancy service (UGIEC) including CPD, research and evaluation tailored to the needs of school priorities.
In future editions of Teaching Scotland we'll highlight a range of additional professional learning opportunities and programmes. We hope the School of Education becomes your destination of choice for your ongoing professional development and for former Glasgow graduates an alumni discount is available for some programmes.
Of immediate interest, the School of Education will be hosting the 55th World Assembly of the International Council of Education for Teaching in July this year. This year's theme is 'Teachers and Teacher Education: towards excellence in curriculum, pedagogy and practice'. With keynote addresses by leading international academics, round tables and symposia, and a final 'State of the Art' session the conference promises stimulating debate and discussion.
