GTC Scotland sponsors short story competition
Teachers are being encouraged to take part in the St Andrew's Day Short Story Competition as this year's theme is education.
The Scottish Association of Writers (SAW) has helped a number of previously unpublished authors launch their careers and, through this competition, which is supported by GTC Scotland, it aims to find more budding writers.
The competition will be judged by Robin Pilcher - author, founder and chief editor of Shortbread Short Stories. Eldest son of Rosamunde Pilcher, his novels are evidence of a real family talent.
His novels have been published internationally on bestseller lists and his first three books have been adapted for television.
Robin has worked with a number of schools and understands how important it is
to develop and encourage writing.
The first prize is £300, second is £150 and third is £50, and the judge's decision is final.
There are a number of rules to remember if you wish to enter this competition - stories must be between 1,500 and 2,000 words with an entry fee of £5 per manuscript, though more than one manuscript may be entered per person.
The competition is open to anyone over 16 years of age, the central theme of the story must be education, entries must be the work of the entrant and must not have been previously published either in print or online or self-published.
Please be aware that entries will not be returned and no competitor can win more than one prize.
No Council member of SAW or personnel of GTC Scotland are eligible to enter.
The closing date for entries is 30 November 2011.
