Weighty words spoken on vital issues for future
GTC Scotland's National Lecture was delivered this year by Richard Holloway. The event proved very popular, filling Committee Room 1 in the Scottish Parliament.
Richard is a Scottish writer and broadcaster and was formerly Bishop of Edinburgh in the Scottish Episcopal Church. He is now regarded as one of the most outspoken and controversial figures in the church.
He is well known for his support of progressive causes and has written extensively on such topics.
GTC Scotland also hosted a debate - is Scottish education inspiring our pupils to reach for the sporting challenges? A panel, chaired by the Presiding Officer of The Scottish Parliament, included Anthony Finn, Chief Executive, GTC Scotland; Stewart Harris, Chief Executive, Sport Scotland; Professor Peter Higgins, Professor of Outdoor Education at the University of Edinburgh; and John Beattie, former Scottish international rugby player, BBC presenter and a nominated representative of the Scottish Sports Association.
They discussed if schools are playing their part in inspiring and developing pupils to engage with sport, investing enough time in the wellbeing and sporting activity and inspiring young people to reach for sporting challenges?
Both events were run in partnership with the Festival of Politics.
