Annie Lennox to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS
Annie Lennox is delivering the GTC Scotland National Lecture on 19th August at the Scottish Parliament.
For the first time, the lecture will be held as part of the Festival of Politics.
Annie will cover issues relating to her work raising awareness of HIV and AIDS in Africa. Annie started the SING campaign after witnessing Nelson Mandela describe the African HIV pandemic as a genocide, with women and children becoming the frontline victims.
The money raised by SING helps prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa, and also supports those currently living with HIV.
Head of Communications at GTC Scotland, Glenise Borthwick, said: "We're delighted to be able to use our lecture to give Annie a platform to promote this incredibly worthwhile cause.
"Working in partnership with the Festival of Politics, we are helping to encourage teachers and their pupils to consider their role as global citizens."
Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Alex Fergusson MSP, said: "We are delighted to welcome back Annie to the Scottish Parliament's Festival of Politics again this year as she discusses the SING Campaign - one year on. We look forward to an update from Annie on the positive developments SING and the Treatment Action Campaign continue to have on people living with HIV."
Annie will also meet with teachers from across every secondary school in Edinburgh on 20 August.
She will hear the extent of the international work teachers and pupils across the schools in the city complete through their global citizenship activities.
Showcasing their work to Annie, teachers will share with her their passion to make a difference through their international educational values and commitment to helping others across the world, bringing about support and change.
