New Council members set to make their mark

Voting in the 2009 election of registered teachers to the Council closed at noon on Friday 25 September, with the deadline for the receipt of postal ballot papers extended until Friday 2 October due to industrial action at Royal Mail.

Photo of a long-jumperThe Twelfth Council takes up office on 1 November for a period to be determined by Scottish Ministers as part of the Scottish Government's plans to grant GTC Scotland independent status (at present estimated to be around two years). Successful candidates for the corresponding election categories are listed below.

The elected, appointed and nominated members of the new Council will make a strong contribution to both the development of GTC Scotland as it moves towards independent status and to the development of teacher professionalism and Scottish education.

Council appointments confirmed

Keith Brown, Minister for Schools and Skills, has announced the reappointment of four Ministerial nominees to the Council:

  • Cathy Macaslan, Vice Principal at Aberdeen University
  • Eileen Prior, a parent with a background in additional support needs
  • Ian Jackson, Director for Scotland, the General Dental Council
  • Brian Paterson, a former managing director

The term of Ephraim Borowski, a retired university senior lecturer and head of department, has been extended for 18 months.

One vacancy for a Ministerial nominee is to be taken forward via the public appointments process.
